Summary

From the bestselling author of The Secret Mother , a chilling tale about revisiting the past―and digging up secrets you’d rather forget。 The invitation to her school reunion couldn’t have come at a better time for Chloe Flynn。 Divorced, broke and bored at work, she’s living a life her teenage self would hate。 Turning the clock back fifteen years might be just what she needs to wipe the slate clean and start again。 And then there’s the chance she’ll bump into Nathan Blake, the one she still regrets letting get away… Back at her elite private school, Chloe sparkles as she reunites with old friends and long-forgotten love interests。 And then, just as she’d hoped, there’s Nathan, more handsome than ever before。 Even better, he’s single too, and seems to be just as keen to make up for lost time… But as the evening progresses, Chloe can’t help feeling that something’s not quite right―that she’s not the only one who’s come here for more than just a party。 When the secrets of the past start to emerge and the reunion takes a sinister turn, it’s clear that nothing is what it seems―and nothing will be the same again。

Oh my goodness what a read and what a spectacular ending。 Never in all my years of reading have I come across such a unique ending。 I certainly didn’t see it coming。 Anyway back to the start 😂Chloe receives an invitation to a school reunion。 At first she was reluctant to go but in the end she decided maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea。 No sooner than Chole has confirmed she will attend she starts getting emails from an anonymous person warning her off going。 Chole has a secret from her school days Oh my goodness what a read and what a spectacular ending。 Never in all my years of reading have I come across such a unique ending。 I certainly didn’t see it coming。 Anyway back to the start 😂Chloe receives an invitation to a school reunion。 At first she was reluctant to go but in the end she decided maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea。 No sooner than Chole has confirmed she will attend she starts getting emails from an anonymous person warning her off going。 Chole has a secret from her school days which clearly someone knows about。 Although this rattles Chloe she still goes ahead and attends the reunion in hope that her school girl crush Nathan will be there。 As it turns out he is and he and Chloe hit it off right from the start。 It is there that the story starts to develop。 Secrets come out, truths are told and lies come out building up to that fabulous ending。 I am a massive fan of Shalini Boland, I’ve read all of her books and always know I’m in for a treat whenever I open one of her books, and the school reunion was no different。 I’d certainly recommend this book or any of Shalini Boland’s books to anyone who is looking for a good read 🙂 Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review。 。。。more

This was a very twisty thriller and I will admit it had some turns that took me by surprise。 The writing was exciting and this was the kind of book that keeps you up way past your bedtime。 The story is told in 3 perspectives: Dean, Chloe, and flashbacks of the past。 Chloe is disappointed she is divorced, works a small job in a bank, so she has no interest in attending her high school reunion。 But thinking about the boy she had a crush on convinces her to go even though she swore she’d never go b This was a very twisty thriller and I will admit it had some turns that took me by surprise。 The writing was exciting and this was the kind of book that keeps you up way past your bedtime。 The story is told in 3 perspectives: Dean, Chloe, and flashbacks of the past。 Chloe is disappointed she is divorced, works a small job in a bank, so she has no interest in attending her high school reunion。 But thinking about the boy she had a crush on convinces her to go even though she swore she’d never go back。 Dean is trying to take care of his son, but after a business deal went beyond poorly for him he is focused solely on revenge。 The night of the reunion old secrets will come to light and Chloe, Dean, and the rest of Chloe’s classmates will all have to learn that you can’t ever escape the secrets of your past。 。。。more

What happens when we dig up secrets we’d rather forget? For the 2008 graduating class of West Cliff School, it’s going to mean nursing heartbreak and exacting revenge。 It really was a perfect storm。 The timing was everything。 The invitation, mixed with 31-year-old Chloe Flynn’s frustration with her mom, her anger and feelings of inadequacy that came with her divorce, a non-existent social life, and her boredom at work, quickly toppled her pent-up emotional vulnerabilities that she thought she’d b What happens when we dig up secrets we’d rather forget? For the 2008 graduating class of West Cliff School, it’s going to mean nursing heartbreak and exacting revenge。 It really was a perfect storm。 The timing was everything。 The invitation, mixed with 31-year-old Chloe Flynn’s frustration with her mom, her anger and feelings of inadequacy that came with her divorce, a non-existent social life, and her boredom at work, quickly toppled her pent-up emotional vulnerabilities that she thought she’d buried since adolescence。 Single and ready to mingle, Chloe welcomes the chance to turn back the clock 15 years。 It’s also great timing for a few others who’ll be attending the reunion。 Perhaps their motives aren’t as pure and clear as Chloe’s。 Is this the chance to right some wrongs? Hasn’t enough time passed? Is it even worth an attempt to gain popularity and attention from the very people who withheld it? Regardless, it’ll be an evening to remember。 You’ll shake your head as you read about adults who can’t let the past go, who regress to their adolescent behaviour, and who reveal each other’s secrets when it is to their advantage。 You’ll roll your eyes at an overbearing mother and raise an eyebrow at a mystery guest who provides the narrative with an intriguing point of view。 BUT somewhere in the middle of all that, Boland works her magic and somehow you end up feeling equal parts duped and illuminated…like only Boland can do。 Don’t give up too early。 Yes, it’s slow while the scene is being set。 Yes, it’s frustrating not knowing who the identity of the unknown classmate。 BUT when the separate storylines start meshing, and you get a clue who the unknown person might be, the plot thickens and the pace increases。 What you will get: a slow-burn, character-driven, twisty revenge plot told in first person with three different points of view。 It will make you double think revisiting the past, wondering about ‘the one who got away’, and questioning if we can ever go back to the way things were。 You’ll close the book realizing that it’s more important to move forwards than backward and paying more attention to the Harriets in your life; after all, “Things aren’t always what they look like on the outside。” I’m looking forward to returning to Venice for Boland’s next thriller!I was gifted this copy by Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review。 。。。more

Tense and gripping! The story is told from 2 points of view, Chloe and Dean。 Two seemingly unconnected people。 A third voice from the past also tells part of the story - but is this person reliable?A dark and tense story of the secrets lurking in closets。 Who knew a school reunion could bring so many secrets out of the woodwork? A gripping story that has plenty of twists and a very dark ending!

This was my first book from Shalini Boland so I didn’t know what to expect。 What I definitively did not expect was that I all I thought I knew about the characters is simply not true。Chloe is thirty something and recently divorced。 This breakup left her with no friends, they all sided with her ex, and a boring job。 Then she receives an invitation to a school reunion。 That gives her the opportunity to rejoin with two of her former friends and swoon about Nathan Blake, her crush back in the days。 This was my first book from Shalini Boland so I didn’t know what to expect。 What I definitively did not expect was that I all I thought I knew about the characters is simply not true。Chloe is thirty something and recently divorced。 This breakup left her with no friends, they all sided with her ex, and a boring job。 Then she receives an invitation to a school reunion。 That gives her the opportunity to rejoin with two of her former friends and swoon about Nathan Blake, her crush back in the days。 She hopes he will show up so that she can catch up on that little spark that was between them。 Chloe seems very insecure, her own mother keeps nagging at her for everything she does。 And she still things about her ex-husband and his new wife and kid。 When the day of the reunion arrives it seems at first that everything will go to plan。 But soon everything suddenly is totally different than what I thought。Chloe is not an easy character but I could feel for her at first。 There are also chapters with flashbacks to the time at the school and there is another POV from someone called Dean who got into trouble with a wealthy man he worked for and did not get payed。 For quite a while I was irritated by these chapters and could not fit it into Chloe’s storyline。 But towards the end everything comes together and left me puzzled。 I really did not expect that ending。Up until half of it I thought this would be a solid 3 Stars review。 It was a decent book with an easy to follow story。 But after finishing it I must admit that it surprised me and that I underestimated the plot。 So I happily give it 4 Stars。 I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

In general, I enjoyed the book, although it took some time for me to fully get into it。The story starts off slowly, gradually building momentum towards the reunion。 The author takes their time to set the scene, introduce the characters, and provide background information before plunging into the main action。 It's not until the middle of the book that the plot really starts to pick up speed, particularly during the reunion。 Shalini Boland skillfully crafts compelling characters and dynamics that allow for a thorough exploration of their personalities。 The writing is filled with intricate details, sometimes almost too much, as she paints a picture of each character, location, and scene。 I found Dean ( the second POV) to be quite likable, while my opinion of Chloe constantly wavered back and forth。 However, I was caught off guard by some unexpected occurrences。 Although the book failed to keep me in suspense or completely captivate my attention, I still found it to be an enjoyable read, and the conclusion more than compensated for the slow beginning。Shalini Boland fans will absolutely enjoy this book。Thanks to netgally and Thomas and Mercer for an advanced copy。 Opinions are voluntary and my own。 。。。more

This was Shalini Boland at her finest。Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for this ARC! 。。。more

Who is sending the messages, why is Chloe being threatened? Dean is a single father who is struggling。 His mother has recently passed away and he has a client who refuses to pay him for his work。 How does he tie into the story?I enjoyed both Chloe and Dean's POV chapters。 This was a nicely paced book that kept me guessing until close to the end。 I had no idea what was going to happen and kept turning those pages wanting to know more。 There was a nice number of twists and turns throughout the book with a very shocking reveal which I did not see coming at all!!!!! Very nicely done。 Gripping, shocking, well written, and dramatic。Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。 All the thoughts and opinions are my own。Read more of my reviews at www。openbookposts。com 。。。more

Another brilliant book from this author, storytelling at its best and kept me involved in the storyline from the beginning until the end。It was full of twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat with an ending that brought everything to a satisfactory conclusion。I have no hesitation in recommending this book。

Chloe has recently been divorced and feeling a bit lonely。 She doesn’t have any friends on her own。 The ones she had were mostly connected to her ex- husband Ben and the relationship she has wit her mother is not the most caring one。 So, when she receives an invitation for a school reunion, she is reluctant to go at first, as she was bullied at school。 But she takes no heed, and she thinks it might be a fresh start she needs and might meet Nathan who she had a crush on, fifteen years previously。 Chloe has recently been divorced and feeling a bit lonely。 She doesn’t have any friends on her own。 The ones she had were mostly connected to her ex- husband Ben and the relationship she has wit her mother is not the most caring one。 So, when she receives an invitation for a school reunion, she is reluctant to go at first, as she was bullied at school。 But she takes no heed, and she thinks it might be a fresh start she needs and might meet Nathan who she had a crush on, fifteen years previously。 But she starts getting apprehensive when she also gets a threatening email telling her that she shouldn’t go to the reunion。 What do they want and why?I am kicking myself that I haven’t read much of this authors work。 Because ‘The School Reunion’ is a fabulous read。 This is gripping and full of suspense and keeps to guessing who is threatening her right to the end。 With a twist at the end left me wanting more。 Is there another episode to this story? I hope so。 5 stars me。 。。。more

Have you ever attended a high school reunion? Not me! No thanks!😝Our MC Chloe, just received an invitation for her reunion and her initial thought was identical。 No way! But after reconnecting with one of her high school besties she decides to go for it!There is one man she wants to see…Nathan! Elusive, but he’s someone Chloe has been thinking about for a long time。 Then of course, there are the classmates she’d rather skip over…and they feel the same way about her! As nasty in the book as they are in real life!🙄And let’s not forget, there’s also her high-school boyfriend who she’s tried to put behind her。 Question is, is he ready to let her go? (Oh, that high-school tension and drama!)This book has a bit of a youngish feel to it。 I wouldn’t call it YA but you definitely get the adolescent vibe in their behaviors。Shalini Boland did a stellar job of keeping the reader (me) in the dark throughout。 There was so much going on - both past and present。 Leaving me clueless as to where she was taking me, absolutely glued to the pages。 The ending came together for an explosive twist! Yay!I always enjoy my reads by this author and looking forward to more!Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer 。。。more

Thank you Netgalley & Thomas & Mercer for an eARC of The School Reunion by Shalini Boland。I love this author, so am always thrilled when I see her pump out yet another bingey book! Chloe gets an invite to her school reunion at the perfect time - She's divorced, broke and bored。 She finds herself reuniting with old friends before the reunion (and potential love interests)。 Seems like things are looking up for her, right? Everyone has some secrets, and someone is determined for them to come out。 I Thank you Netgalley & Thomas & Mercer for an eARC of The School Reunion by Shalini Boland。I love this author, so am always thrilled when I see her pump out yet another bingey book! That being said, the ending felt abrupt and I wish we were left with a little bit more。 3。5 stars out of 5。 。。。more
